I'm thinking of the beach, an open beach. Specifically a beach where the tide is way out. And you're out there walking around where the big heavy ocean used to be only a few short hours ago. Too early and you'll be swimming in it. Too late and you may drown. Somewhere in the middle, it can be all yours. It's still winter here. I'm far from the beach but my mind has wandered there. A tide has gone out in me. I don't know when it will return. I've grown used to the cold, damp, spongy sand and the vast emptiness. It's all mine.
