This Too Shall Pass
"Just because you feel like shit doesn’t mean you are shit." — Jerry Colonna
If you could put a message on a metaphorical billboard, for millions of people to see, what would it say?
Jerry Colonna was asked this on the Tim Ferriss podcast.
He responded:
“You’re fundamentally good.”
Sure, you make some mistakes. Sometimes, you don’t show up as perfect as you’d like. But at the end of the day, you’re a good person and trying to do your best in a challenging world.
Jerry added:
“You’re not alone.”
Often, it feels like you are battling it out alone. But you’re not.
You’re not the first person to go through this, and you won’t be the last.
If you’re feeling it, countless others are too. And you don’t have to suffer alone.
You have love and support. Even if it feels invisible, it’s there.
Jerry continued:
“Just because you feel like shit
doesn’t mean you are shit.”
Whoa! That line hits.
You’ve felt some form of rock bottom before. It hurts. Negativity takes over. One trapping of that dark place is that we internalise the belief that it’s our fault. We assume we must be fundamentally broken, and it will always be that way.
Not true.
You are so much more than this moment. You bring a unique gift to this world. Others love you.
Jerry wrapped it up with:
“This too shall pass.”
Reflect on some of the “shit” moments you’ve experienced in the past. You survived. You find a way.
Things won’t always feel as bad as they do now.
“You’re fundamentally good.
You’re not alone.
Just because you feel like shit
doesn’t mean you are shit.
This too shall pass.”
